Umberto Pizzi, the Italian photojournalist whose images appeared in Time, People Magazine and the Sunday Express Magazine, died on September 29, 2026. He was 88. Born in Zagarolo on October 7, 1937, Pizzi began his career in 1963 working for the Food and Agriculture Organization in Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria and Jordan.
His early work focused on documenting life in the Middle East. In the 1970s and 1980s he shifted into photo-reporting and became a registered journalist in 1988.
