Raisa Mkrtchyan was an Armenian actress who was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Armenian SSR and subsequently of the Republic of Armenia, the highest honour the Armenian state bestows on its performing artists, in recognition of a career in theatre and cinema that made her one of the most celebrated figures in Armenian cultural life across several decades of professional performance. She died in 2026 at the age of 88.
She was born Raisa Mkrtchyan in Armenia and pursued an acting career through the Armenian theatrical institutions that maintained and developed the tradition of Armenian performing arts across the Soviet period and into the post-independence era.
