Luis de la Rosa

Luis de la Rosa was a Mexican-American animator and visual effects artist who worked in the American animation industry for more than three decades and whose most celebrated contribution was as a lead animator and special effects animator on Sony Pictures Animation's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the 2018 animated film that won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and that transformed the visual language of American animation with an approach that deliberately referenced the look of printed comic books to create a moving image experience unlike anything that feature animation had previously produced. He died in an accident on 30 June 2026 at the age of 51.
