Ketaki Kushari Dyson, the Indian-born British writer and scholar who wrote across poetry, fiction, drama, translation and criticism in two languages, died on September 12, 2026. She was 86. Born Ketaki Kushari in Kolkata on June 26, 1940, she was educated in the city before continuing her studies at the University of Calcutta and the University of Oxford.
Writing in both Bengali and English, she built a body of work that moved between Bengal and England, diaspora life, feminism, women's issues, cultural assimilation, multiculturalism, gastronomy, and social and political questions. For much of her adult life she lived near Oxford, where she became known as a diaspora writer and scholar.
