Hadi Abbas, an Iraqi sculptor and one of the country’s most influential artists, died on September 21, 2026, at the age of 58. His death was confirmed by family members and colleagues familiar with his work. Abbas was a founding member of the Iraqi sculptors’ Alwan Group, established alongside late sculptors Etihad Karim and Abdul Rahim Al-Hassan, as well as Laith Fattah Al-Turk and Khaled Al-Mubarak.
The group helped to institutionalize collective artistic work in Iraq’s contemporary scene. Abbas’s role in shaping this movement made him a central figure in Iraqi sculpture.
