Eva Viežnaviec

Eva Viežnaviec was a Belarusian writer and journalist who wrote in the Belarusian language and who contributed to the tradition of Belarusian-language literature and journalism that has persisted as a form of cultural resistance across the Soviet period and the post-Soviet authoritarianism of Alexander Lukashenko's government, maintaining a commitment to the language and its literary possibilities in a context that has consistently marginalised Belarusian in favour of Russian as the dominant public language. She died on 2 August 2026 in Minsk at the age of 83.
