Bamanga Tukur, the Nigerian businessman and politician who chaired the People's Democratic Party during a period of deep internal crisis, died on September 12, 2026. He was 90. Tukur died three days before his 91st birthday.
Born on September 15, 1935, in Adamawa State, he built a career that spanned the military era and the return of civilian rule, holding office as a state governor, a federal minister, and the national chairman of Africa's largest political party. His political career began in earnest in 1983, when he was elected governor of the old Gongola State.
