Moses Matovu, the founding figure of Afrigo Band and one of Uganda’s most enduring musical icons, died on September 24, 2026, at the age of 77. His death was confirmed by family members and close associates. Matovu helped establish Afrigo Band in 1975.
He remained its leader throughout its nearly five-decade history. As a singer-songwriter, vocalist and saxophonist, he was the driving force behind Uganda’s longest-running and most recognized band.
