Manfred Poerschke was a West German sprinter who competed in the 4×400 metre relay at the 1956 Melbourne Summer Olympics as part of the United Team of Germany, won a silver medal in the same relay event at the 1958 European Athletics Championships in Stockholm, and was one of the leading quarter-milers of his country in the late 1950s during the period when East and West German athletes competed together in international championships as a combined United Team. He died on 17 August 2026 at the age of 92.
He was born on 26 February 1934 in Dortmund, the large industrial city in the Ruhr region of Westphalia, one of the manufacturing heartlands of West Germany's post-war reconstruction.
