Joshua Ashford, 38, has died after he was shot during a violent altercation at an auto repair business on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

The shooting happened around noon on June 22, 2026, inside Cervantes Mufflers and Brakes, located at 2102 S. Washtenaw Ave., where an argument reportedly escalated into gunfire.

Ashford, who lived in the 7600 block of South Eggleston Avenue, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Emergency responders transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital, but despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and Chicago police.

Authorities said a 49-year-old man was also injured during the incident. He reportedly sustained facial injuries after being battered during the altercation and was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital. His condition has not been disclosed.

Investigators have not yet released details about what led to the confrontation or whether any arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
